If you've been following us for a while, you'll surely have realized that Kefalonia offers breathtaking natural landscapes of diverse origins.
You can, in fact, go from the golden beaches of fine sand in the south of the island to the spectacular views of the white pebble coasts in the north.
But it is precisely in the south that, bucking the trend of the normal sandy beaches, we discovered a particular "location" where you can spend a day in total relaxation.
They are “The rock formations of Liakas.
Getting there is not exactly easy, but it is not prohibitive either.
From the village of Spartia, continue towards Liakas Village, a rather large complex of studios and villas.
Once you reach the end of a road, which is paved with concrete for several stretches, you park your car or scooter and head down towards the sea.
It is at this point that you notice the promontory characterised by relatively smooth and rather large rock formations.
This stretch of sea is not very well known, and therefore rarely visited.
But precisely for this reason and because of its natural shape, it is particularly attractive and relaxing.
On the main rock, the one that juts out into the sea, there are a few umbrellas and just as many sun loungers set up, but it's not at all unpleasant to lie down directly on the rock.
Even during the day, there is never any overcrowding of tourists, the facilities available are fully sufficient.
The sea flows through a small channel and, passing through a natural cave, rejoins on the opposite side.
The view is sensational, both because of the rock formation and the splendid view of almost the entire southern coast of Kefalonia.
If you look further south toward the horizon, on a splendid Greek day, you can easily glimpse the island of Zakynthos.
The seabed is rocky, but the crystal-clear water offers the opportunity to snorkel, circling the main rock and passing through the cave... fantastic!
Diving into this stretch of sea, where the seabed immediately becomes deep, is truly wonderful and fun is guaranteed.
Oh, one more thing…
The swimming pool-style ladder that was installed is very convenient for getting back up onto the rocks; it couldn't have been otherwise, given the water..
The rock formations of Liakas represent a real alternative to the sandy beaches more commonly found in the southern area of Kefalonia.
This is the island's main feature: offering diverse places and extraordinary landscapes even in the most unexpected places.
For this reason, and to fully appreciate what Kefalonia has to offer, it's important to move every day of your holiday, savoring the nature, the scents, and the sense of freedom the island conveys.
