Fteri Beach

Fteri Beach: a wonderful bay
Kefalonia boasts a unique and stunning stretch of coastline, offering a priceless spectacle from every perspective.

In an article on our blog we told you about the village of Zola and how suggestive the two beaches located immediately below the village are: Vouti and Kyriaki.

We also mentioned the possibility of taking a Taxi Boat to one of the beaches located along a charming stretch of sea.

At the small port of Zola, right where the Taxi Boats depart, it is also possible to rent a small boat, for a maximum of 5 people, which you can use to sail along the stretch of coast that juts out into the sea to the north and thus enjoy the spectacle of Fteri Bay.

Follow us on this journey and we'll help you discover the wonders this Bay has to offer..

Well, as we just said, to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the coast, ouradvice is to rent a boat and sail on your own.

This is because, unlike a taxi boat that drops you off on a beach and picks you up, having a small boat will allow you to cruise the entire bay far and wide, all the way to the northernmost rock.I bet you're now thinking, "Yeah... but who's ever sailed a boat?"

Nothing is impossible. Keep in mind that we recommend this type of excursion even to those who have never sailed a boat before. The Rent a Boat staff member will provide you with all the necessary information. There's not much to know, and above all, it's not at all difficult

…but above all, it's worth it, believe me…

OK, here we are.

Leaving the marina and following the coast for a certain distance, we skirt the promontory and already admire in amazement the spectacle of Fteri Bay where the white of the rocks, contrasting terribly with the surrounding vegetation, plunges headlong into the deep blue of the sea.

1. The first stop is a stretch of sea called the “Blue Lagoon”.

It is located in front of a white beach which, unfortunately, as in other parts of the bay, is not recommended for stopping, as the friable rock above would make stopping highly dangerous.

No big deal, because the real highlight of this stop is the sea itself. As soon as you arrive, you immediately realize you've arrived and why this area is called the "Blue Lagoon.".

The intense blue of the sea gives way to an incredibly azure and clear strip of water, where the deep white sand creates a natural pool.

It's impossible to resist the urge to take a dip in this natural wonder all to yourself, so drop anchor and dive in without a care in the world...truly priceless!

Because when you get here, it's unlikely anyone else will be around, so the Blue Lagoon is entirely at your disposal!

Once we've finished swimming, albeit reluctantly, we get back on the boat to continue sailing.

2. The second stop is undoubtedly on Fteri beach.

You'll come across it shortly after leaving "Blue Lagoon," but you can easily stop here as the beach offers a very open backside, without steep, crumbling rocks above.

What's particularly striking about this beach, besides its beauty, is the incredible tranquility it offers.

Made up of pure white pebbles, despite its large size, the number of tourists is very limited, around ten people or so.

The rest of the show is obviously provided by the sea, first and foremost, with absolutely crystalline water and colors that vary from completely transparent, to azure, to green, to light blue, to blue…

Furthermore, the thick vegetation behind the beach creates a high contrast between the intense green of the trees and the almost blinding white of the beach, adding beauty to an already overwhelming landscape.

After spending a couple of hours relaxing, you can head off to a second beach... not to be missed.
Which one?

Once we resume sailing, still heading north, we proceed for several minutes completely immersed in the spectacle of Fteri Bay.

Absorbed in the enchanting scenery of beaches nestled beneath cliffs of white rocks and populated only by seagulls or at most a few goats (yes, you read that right, goats), you almost reach the end of the bay.

3. The third stop is here, at Amidi beach, when you can now see the rock that marks the end of Fteri bay.

It closely resembles Fteri Beach, and you can also spend a few hours there, given the site's easy access.

A little smaller and more secluded, shallower, and bathed by water that's likely more crystalline and has Caribbean-like hues, it's, in our opinion, even more captivating and spectacular than Fteri.

After spending some time here, taking refreshing swims and relaxing on the beach, as always happens in places like these, he soon realizes it's time to return to base.

It becomes difficult to leave these natural paradises and return to where you started from…

Returning on the boat, with which we have now become almost completely familiar, and retracing the same route we took on this intense day, we can't help but let the images of the natural spectacle that Fteri Bay has given us run through our minds.

An adventurous day lived to the fullest, one that we assure you will stay with you for a long time, because you will have discovered that in Kefalonia you can still feel and experience unique sensations such as Nature, Fragrances, and Freedom.

However, if you want to go further, you can also reach it by land.
As?
Along a somewhat difficult path that is located inside the woods, behind the bay and can be walked for a good 40 minutes or so.
It's definitely worth it…
