The beaches in southern Kefalonia, with their sandy beaches and crystal-clear water, offer plenty of fun for families with children.
White or golden, they represent a true paradise for lovers of water games and for those who prefer small coves where they can find peace and relaxation even in the middle of August. The trip we propose starts from the center of Argostoli (the capital) and arrives near the village of Skala.
The stretch of coast is a succession of small, stunning bays and long beaches with crystal-clear sea.
Let's begin this pleasant journey through the beaches south of Kefalonia.
1. Beaches of Lassi
You will surely be fascinated by the colours of the beaches and the sea of Makris and Platis Gialos both located in the Lassi.
Separated only by a small promontory, you can truly find it all here: fine white sand, clear blue sea with a gently sloping seabed, water features, and a few public areas where you can enjoy a more peaceful and secluded experience with your own umbrella.
The splendid pine forest immediately behind the beach frames the taverns where you can enjoy traditional Greek dishes.
2. Beaches near the airport
Continuing our journey along the beaches south of Kefalonia and leaving the Lassi area, we come across the beaches of Avithos and Ammes, the latter nicknamed “the beach of planes” because it is located exactly on the flight path of the planes that land at the very nearby airport and therefore one has the sensation that they land directly on the beach.
Both beaches are made up of splendid fine golden sand, some sections are equipped with facilities while others are left free and wilder.
They feature a clear and crystalline sea, especially Avithos, where the water is so clean that it has been awarded important recognition.
3. Spartia Beach
Along this stretch of coast lies the small beach of Spartia , overlooked by a 20-meter-high clay cliff . From the small harbor, fishermen are happy to accompany tourists who want to admire the island's beauty directly from the crystal-clear, colorful sea.
A little further on from Spartia lies Trapezaki , a long beach of fine sand and shallow waters, perfect for strolling and for children to enjoy.
The sea is crystal-clear, and the area, usually very quiet, is uncrowded even during peak months.
A small path along the coast leads to the next beach, Kanali.
4. Lourdata Beach
Moving further south, we suggest Lourdata beach, more than 1 km long, consisting of white sand and pebbles.
Due to the presence of numerous bars and taverns, it is considered one of the liveliest on the island.
A path allows you to reach the Sission monastery on foot , from which another dirt road starts that leads to the beach called Paradise, not reachable by car.
5. Kaminia Beach
We continue our journey through the beaches south of Kefalonia until we reach Kaminia andPotamakia, which together reach a length of about 2 km.
Kaminia is shallow, flanked by a dirt road where you can park, and has several areas equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers.
It is one of the beaches best suited for nesting loggerhead sea turtles, and for this reason, certain rules must be followed to protect the species.
Potamakia
Potamakia is much deeper, can be reached on foot by continuing along Kaminia , and is almost completely free.
6. Skala Beach
Skala is the southernmost beach on the island and is also the most touristy.
The center of Skala itself is not very large, but along its coastline that runs towards Poros, there are several holiday villages capable of hosting many tourists.
As you might imagine, the presence of these tourist centers has significantly increased the nightlife.
Skala, however, is not just about fun; it also offers a long golden beach with a mix of tiny pebbles and sand, crystal-clear waters teeming with various species of fish.
