Holidays in Kefalonia with children are a wonderful opportunity for families to introduce their children to the magic of a unique island.
To demonstrate this, we asked a child to describe his vacation to us.
The result was a short but engaging travel diary.
“Last summer I spent my holidays in Kefalonia, a Greek island in the Ionian Sea.
It's a beautiful place, where the sea is transparent and the beaches are sandy or pebbly.
I swam among fish of various colors darting around me, waiting for breadcrumbs. Then one day I saw a squid that had gotten too close to the shore.
Frightened at being among people, it sprayed a jet of ink, darkening the sea water.
I gave my fishing net to a man who caught the squid and carried it further from the shore.
In the capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli, lies the port where fishermen arrive in the morning returning from their night fishing.
When they remove the fish from their nets, they throw the small fish back into the sea, and the turtles, smelling the scent, come for breakfast.
They are Caretta Caretta turtles, long, plump, greedy, and cunning.
After feeding, usually between 10:00 and 11:00, they disappear until the next morning.

At the beach I played tennis with my brother or dad with a shuttlecock or a ball, soccer and volleyball, I built sand castles, but most of my time I spent in the water.
In the evenings when we went to restaurants, I always ate fresh fish, skewers called suovlaki in Greek, and also a special lasagna made with eggplant, potatoes, minced meat, and cheese called moussaka.
In the studios where we were staying, every Wednesday and Friday evening the owner prepared a barbecue for all the guests near the pool.
You eat really well in Kefalonia!
Every day I went to a different beach.
My favorite beach was Antisamos, because I swam among so many little fish.
There was a little restaurant and a bar where you could get delicious orange juice.

There was another beach I liked because you could see the planes landing and taking off: I called it “plane beach”.
I can't wait for August so I can go back to Kefalonia!
