The village of Agia Efimia

The village of Agia Efimia
The village of Agia Efimia is located on the east coast of Kefalonia, more precisely in the Pilaros region.

Born as a fishing village, over time it has transformed into a quiet tourist resort, a bit like what happened with Fiskardo.

In Agia Efimia, a clear glimpse of what peasant life must have been like in the past is evident from the numerous ruins of old villages marked by time and the earthquakes that occurred in the past.

Featuring a convenient and well-equipped port, it is an excellent starting point for those traveling by boat to reach coves inaccessible by land and for day trips to the nearby island of Ithaca.

The town is characterized by small internal streets, including a main paved one that leads to a beautiful, rather large Venetian-style building.

The beaches of Agia Efimia.

Agia Efimia offers small beaches and coves with white pebbles, the most famous of which is undoubtedly "Paradise Beach," located to the north on the road leading to the edge of the village and characterized by crystal-clear waters.

Above the beach is a taverna bearing the same name, "Paradise," where you can enjoy excellent local specialties, as can the tavernas just behind the village's main square.

The extremely strategic location of the village of Agia Efimia.

Going further north, along the roads that follow the east coast, a little mountainous and challenging but with breathtaking views, you reach wild and uncrowded beaches such as GorgotaAgia Sofia, etc.

Among the major tourist resorts located in the north of the island and which are a short distance from Agia Efimia we would like to point out:

Some more information about Agia Efimia.

Since Agia Efimia is a very quiet place, it doesn't enjoy much nightlife. However, if you ask the locals for advice on where to find festivals and small fairs, they will not hesitate to point you to nearby mountain villages where you can see violin players and Greek dancers performing their traditional dances.

Not far from Agia Efimia, nestled in the middle of a forest on Mount Agia Dinati, you can visit the Thematon Monastery, or the Monastery of the Virgin of Themata.

The road leading to the monastery, located about 600 meters above sea level, is not particularly easy, but it offers splendid views.

Thematon means "facts" in Greek, and legend has it that the island's inhabitants came to pray at the monastery, asking what "facts" or actions would solve their problems.

Celebrations at the monastery take place on Easter Tuesday and August 15th.
